Vampire Facial

Also known as Microneedling with PRP, this effective treatment will leave you glowing.

This treatment brings us visions of Kim Kardashianโ€™s blood-soaked face. Theatrical and horrifying to some, but a truly remarkable time in anti-aging and skin care. The Vampire Facial includes drawing blood from your arm, separating the platelets and then infusing them into the skin using Microneedling.

When Platelet Rich Plasma is combined with Microneedling, the results are truly magical. Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), also known as Microneedling creates a controlled injury underneath the skinโ€™s surface, thereby inducing the body to respond through the formation of new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibers (Neocollagenesis) as well as new capillaries for an improved blood supply (Neoangiogenesis) in the treated area. The skin plumps and thickens in response to this stimulus, ultimately reducing the appearance of scars, and fine lines and other skin texture changes. The channels made from the micro-needles allow for topical gels, creams, and the PRP to be absorbed more effectively through the top layer of skin. Better absorption means higher efficacy.

The only way to begin the Neocollagenesis and Neoangiogenesis process is by, believe it or not, inducing damage to the skin. We do this by heat (laser treatments) or punctures (microneedling) or both at the same time. By damaging our existing collagen, we promote our body to send an alarm to our brain saying, โ€œHello! Thereโ€™s a breach!โ€, asking our brain to get those fibroblasts out of retirement to make more collagen to take its place. The happy part, and the whole point of causing controlled damage, is that our fibroblasts will produce much more collagen than was damaged, plumping up our skin, and reversing signs of aging such as skin laxity, fine lines and wrinkles and acne scars.

During treatment, your Aesthetician will run the microneedling device over the treatment area creating tiny micro-channels whilst simultaneously massaging the Platelet Rich Plasma into these microscopic perforations. PRP skin rejuvenation takes advantage of the healing properties and restorative power of your own blood. PRP does not involve any cutting or invasive surgery.

Platelets have a high level of growth hormones, and the microneedling stimulates the skin to regenerate. The process is meant to aid in cell renewal and regeneration. It works overtime to replenish and to rejuvenate the skin. PRP also promotes the development of new blood vessels causing the skin to take on a more vibrant color and youthful glow. New collagen formation induced by PRP restores youthful volume of the face while filling in and diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Since growth factors work to build a new dermis, the epidermis appears smoother and softer. The Vampire Facial is also an extremely effective treatment for acne and acne scars. PRP will show your skin the love, inside and out.

Who Is This Treatment Recommended For?

The Vampire Facial treatment is suitable for people who experience:

  • Tired, dry skin, laxity of skin, uneven pigmentation
  • Signs of aging
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne and indented acne scars

Acne scars can be disfiguring and embarrassing for those who suffer from them. It can be like wearing a badge on your skin, telling the world about your battle with acne. Unfortunately, there is no makeup in the world that can correct deep, pitted scars to the point of making them disappear.

The only way to fully get rid of acne scars is to undergo a treatment in-clinic at Thornhill Skin Clinic. Until recently, laser treatments were the only trusted way to minimize and erase acne scars. Thornhill Skin Clinic is pleased to be able to offer our acne patients Platelet Rich Plasma as an effective and revolutionary option to fix their acne scars naturally. This treatment harnesses the power of growth factors in your own blood to rejuvenate and correct the skin.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Although called the Vampire Facial, areas like neck and chest are most commonly treated as well.

How Often Should I Do This Treatment?

The Vampire Facial can be done as little as 4 weeks apart. For best results, your Aesthetician will guide you in the most productive direction.

How Do I Prepare for This Treatment?

Please avoid using any retinols or products with active ingredients at least 5 days prior as your skin may be more sensitive. Be sure to let your esthetician know any products currently in your skincare regimen. If receiving skin treatments while using medications such as Accutane, make sure to mention this to your attending esthetician before treatment begins.

Is There Downtime?

There will be downtime with this treatment due to the Microneedling, however thanks to the healing properties of PRP the process is sped up! You will have redness and tightness in the skin for up to 7 days post-treatment.

Post-Care Recommendations:

Stay highly moisturized, we recommend the Oxygenetix Moisturizer. Always wear sunscreen with SPF30 or higher following a treatment (even in the winter months). Do not apply make-up or wash the area for at least 4 hours. Do not exfoliate for a minimum 48 hours after treatment. Other specified instructions will be given at appointment.

As PRP is healing in nature, we would want the magical Platelets to be absorbed for as long as possible!
