Fraxel

Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing treatment is a new approach to aging and damaged skin treatments.

Fraxel® Laser smooths fine lines and wrinkles on the face, including around the eyes. It reduces sun damage, improves texture and tone of the skin, and fades brown spots, sun spots and pigmentation on the face, neck, chest, back, forearms and hands. In addition it is a miracle for acne scars. Fraxel® Laser treatment results in fresh, healthy skin and a renewed sense of confidence. All skin types benefit from Fraxel treatments.

Fraxel® Laser treatment is a new approach to treating aging and damaged skin. It offers patients the positive results of ablative skin resurfacing without the side effects of the old resurfacing lasers. Fraxel® laser gives a more dramatic result than non-ablative techniques. It only treats fractions of the skin at a time and rebuilds damaged skin like digital modification - pixel by pixel, spot by spot. (Fraction + Pixel = Fraxel)

Fraxel® Laser treatment produces tiny, microscopic sites of thermal impact separated by areas of unaffected, healthy tissue. Each treated spot, called a MicroThermal Zone, stimulates the body's own natural production of new collagen in the dermis and eliminates old epidermal pigmented cells on the skin's surface. The spared healthy tissue contains viable cells that promote rapid healing of the outer skin layers. Since only 20% of the skin is treated by the Fraxel® laser on each visit, there is speedy healing and minimal downtime.

Fraxel Laser works to resurface the skin texture and complexion by producing thousands of tiny deep microscopic columns in the skin which are referred to as microscopic treatment zones (MTZ). These tiny treatment zones are surrounded by uninjured tissue. Only a fraction of the skin is targeted, therefore, the skin is left intact which allows for quicker wound healing. This treatment results in rapid re-epithelialization, eliminating old epidermal pigmented cells, while penetrating the deeper dermis dramatically reducing visible scarring or wrinkles. Each Fraxel® treatment targets 20% to 25% of the skin’s surface. The expert technician can customize the treatment depending on the concerns as a more or less aggressive treatment can be achieved.

Who Is This Treatment Recommended For?

Fraxel Laser Resurfacing is recommended for any patient looking to improve tone and texture of the skin in their anti-aging journey

      What Areas Can Be Treated?

Face, Neck, Chest, and Back, and essentially any other areas that could benefit from skin rejuvenation can be treated with Fraxel Laser Resurfacing.

How Often Should I Do This Treatment?

The number of treatments recommended is anywhere between 3 to 6 sessions depending on your skin concern and the severity of the condition. Normally treatments are spaced 4 weeks apart and optimal results are visible in approximately 2-3 months post-treatment as collagen takes time to build.

How Do I Prepare for This Treatment?

Please avoid using any retinol or products with active ingredients at least 5 days prior as your skin may be more sensitive. Please avoid sun exposure and tanning. Be sure to let your esthetician know any products currently in your skincare regimen.

      Is It Painful?

There is minimal pain and discomfort during the Fraxel treatment. During the actual treatment you will feel a warm prickling sensation on the skin which most patients find quite tolerable. Immediately after the treatment, your skin will feel warm which is comparable to a mild sunburn for 1 to 2 hours post-treatment.

      Is There Downtime?

There is minimal downtime with Fraxel Laser Resurfacing. Redness and swelling is common, however, the degree of redness and swelling will vary from patient to patient. This reaction or pinkness will persist anywhere between three to five days which will be accompanied by bronzing (the skin will have a bronze appearance for 3-7 days) and flaking of the skin.

      Post-Care Recommendations:

Keep skin highly moisturized post-treatment with a medical grade moisturizing cream as it will minimize the appearance of flaking or peeling. While the skin regenerates and flakes, always wear sunscreen with SPF30 or higher following the Fraxel treatment (even in the winter months). Do not apply make-up for at least 4 hours. Do not exfoliate for a minimum 48 hours after treatment. Other specified instructions will be given at appointment.
